Meet...the SWEET POTATO

Sweet potatoes are incredibly filling and good for you.  There are many different ways to prepare them,  including baking, roasting, fries, and mashed.  They are available year-round and are loaded with goodies. 

They’re loaded with vitamins A and C, and also pack a punch when it comes to potassium, fiber and several B vitamins. In addition, sweet potatoes contain a number of antioxidants, including a high concentration of beta-carotene. 

Collectively, these nutrients boost immunity, serve as anti-inflammatories, reduce risk of digestive problems and help regulate blood sugar, among other benefits.

Make sure to put sweet potatoes on your grocery list.  You can substitute them for your white potatoes in any way that you would normally prepare white potatoes.  Not only will you have a tasty meal, but you'll be contributing to your overall health and wellness.]]>

Here's an awesome and simple recipe for self-care, pampering and detox.  It draws from the wisdom of aromatherapy, natural medicine, and ayurveda.  It's fun to make and has numerous benefits.  Combine a scoopful of epsom salts in a small dish and moisten it with sesame oil.  Add a few drops of aromatherapy oils like citrus in the morning or lavender in the evening.  Fill your tub with warm water and stand in the tub as you massage your scrub all over your body.  The magnesium in the epsom salts helps with swelling and detoxification.  The sesame oil is a wonderful oil used in ayurveda for nourishment and detoxification.  After you are finished with a vigorous massage which also helps to stimulate the lymphatic system and the nervous system, sit in the tub and relax.  Not only will your skin feel amazing, but you have taken steps to assist your body in releasing any toxins stored there.  Be playful and experiment with different oils and salts.  Remember, life is meant to be pleasurable and fun!!

Happy New Year!!  Now that you have survived the holiday season, it's time to take a breath and relax into the new energy of 2013.  Winter itself brings a time of calm,  hibernation, and reflection, and the new year is a great time for contemplation.  Take a moment to feel gratitude for the many blessings in 2012.  See the blessing in everything, including the losses you may have experienced.  I always say that resolutions are made to be broken, but setting some overall intentions for your year will help to focus your energy and align you with your highest goals and wishes.  Use this day to rest and reflect.  Yesterday is gone and tomorrow isn't promised.  Be present with the day, with yourself, with where you are in life, knowing that your good is available in the next moment!  Peace to you all and look forward to the expansion of DiviNeva in 2013 to help you achieve your health and wellness goals!!

This past year has been an awakening of sorts, not only in my life, but in my career as well.  I am so thankful to all of my patients and clients who have helped me to have compassion, forced me to continue my learning, and trusted me and welcomed me into their lives.  While I continue to practice traditional ob/gyn, it has taken a little bit of a back burner over this past year as my holistic practice has expanded in ways I never expected.  With expansion comes confusion and uncertainty, during the "growing" phases, but ultimately you end up at a greater point than you started with. I never could have imagined how rewarding medicine and healing would become for me as I have opened up to allow the divinity within to really do the guiding.  I see the purpose in each patient/client encounter and I know that the learning occurs on both ends as we are all co-creators together.  I encourage each of you to take a moment as you read this to be grateful for the little things, re-frame the challenges and find the good in them, and make a plan for an empowered year.  Take control of your health and happiness! I thank you all for the learning you have allowed me to have and I look forward to serving you ever more in this upcoming year!  Peace and Blessings!
